India shining gives you license to rape your wife!
If you have a twisted mind, psychotic disposition, obsessed with rape and abuse of women, you can join MI-21 and proudly declare...My name is Dong, DING DONG! Licensed to Rape

According to section 375 of Indian Penal Code 1860; (Forced) Sexual intercourse by a man with his own wife, the wife not being under fifteen years of age, is not rape!

FIFTEEN? So the only way the ‘property’ of the Indian husband, sorry, the ‘wife’ is protected against rape is when her age is below fifteen. WTF! Since the legal age for marriage for females in India is 18, this law essentially cancels itself down to the place where the sun doesn’t shine!

And YES! It was passed into law on 6th Oct 1860, a full 152 years, 7 months and 12 days back, attributed to the efforts of certain, erstwhile Baron Macaulay and his colleagues. Being a tottering Baron and all of the erstwhile world empire, Macaulay must have had his reasons for including this clause, but for everything that is true and blue in the world, I can’t imagine what that is!

Fast forward to Year 2013 - In the aftermath of gang rape of a 23 year old woman in Dec 2012, Indian government was forced to review the antiquated laws about rape, partly due to public outcry, but I think, more so, by the attention given to the issue by the world media.
Criminalizing marital rape was part of the recommendations by the 3 member Verma Committee. But the wise Indian government, refused to do so, saying that, reforming this law “has the potential of destroying the institution of marriage and traditional family values”… again, WTF?

Correctly predicting, that there would be more of those idiotic candle marches to protest against this wise decision, Indian Government decided to implement it’s tried and tested distraction strategy.
INDIA UNDER ATTACK! Finding no standard new Pakistani anti Indian activities, the incident of ‘Italian Marines killing Indian Fishermen’ was deemed acceptable. Responding to this new ‘threat’, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a thundering statement  (in his quiet way, of course!) that “THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES”. I don’t understand, what consequences? Ban Pizzas and Pastas? What else? Italians don’t even play Cricket!

Meanwhile the saga of gruesome rapes continues - Rape and murders of three sisters, aged six, nine and 10 in Bhandara district, Maharashtra, India. Another woman (a nurse) gang raped in Bihar, India and the list continues. And in another brilliant strategy by the Indian police department, a 10-year-old Dalit rape victim (one of the India’s lower caste), was put behind bars in an all women police station in Bulandshahr, India. Note that the police station was for women and run by women police officers!

Google ‘India Rapes’ - About 7,010,000 results in 0.29 seconds!

BUT, what will be distinctly missing from these results are the actual cases and reports of multitudes of marital rapes and variety of sexual abuses, happening everyday in some Indian households between the god like husband and his slave like wife.

According to the UN Population Fund, more than two-thirds of married women in India, aged 15 to 49, have been beaten and, or, forced to provide sex. Assuming that the statistics are post India's independence (1947), this means approximately 240 million women as of 2009.

In quite a few cases, this seems to happen with complete understanding and built in denial of the in-laws and sometimes even the girls’ parents, family and friends. In the event of an open complaint of such abuse, the woman is usually castigated as not giving her best to the sanctity of slavery! Sorry, i meant the sanctity of marriage!

To add to the whole conundrum, the advent of independent marriage decisions by the modern couples with ‘love’ marriages and with online match making options, the so-called tentative support of the family has also become more and more tenuous.

At most the woman can file a complaint under Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (DVA), which defines such instances as a civil offense. Basically means pay some fine buddy and be careful not to hurt her too much, at least not where it shows or you might get some simple mild imprisonment!

It’s the Wild, Wild India, where raping and being raped seems to be the part of traditional family values.

So, again, if you are a traditionalist, have TPP (Twisted Psychotic Personality), likes raping, abusing women, you can safely join MI-21 and proudly declare

My name is Dong, DING DONG! Licensed to Rape!
